I’ve joined in a fundraiser to help the people of Haiti. When I found out I was only the second one to join in I thought I would help out by spreading the word. This is what I got in my e-mail:

Art-A-Thon for Haiti

Jerry’s Artarama will be hosting the Arizona Art-A-Thon for Haiti on March 20, 2010 from 11 am – 6 pm at their store in Tempe. We are inviting artists to attend and participate in 3 or 6 hour blocks. Artists who attend the event will produce/donate their piece of artwork for the silent auction fundraiser to benefit the recent earthquake victims in Haiti. The silent auction will coincide with the Art-A-Thon, as we will invite the public to attend later in the day at which time they can begin submitting bids for the works being produced.

This Art-A-Thon is in conjunction with those taking place in six other states with multiple events happening in March and April. To get more information please go to the following links:

Artists interested in volunteering for this event should contact the Arizona coordinator, Tina Adair at tucson_artist@yahoo.com, or call 520-248-4108 for more information. The event will be held in the store and space will be somewhat limited, so sign up soon. Please let us know which medium you will be using for your painting and what hours you are willing to volunteer. This will be an opportunity to help the people of Haiti and to get exposure as a local artist!

If you would like to participate but cannot paint at the Art-A-Thon, please donate a piece of art that will be auctioned off during the silent auction.

The Art-A-Thon for Haiti is working with a Non-Profit Organization, OXFAM (http://www.oxfam.org/), which has people on the ground in Haiti and is currently providing clean water to the people of Haiti. When artwork is purchased, the buyer will make a check out to OXFAM directly. More information on the structure of the fundraiser will be coming soon as more details are worked out.

This is a national program, not just limited to Phoenix area artists. Check with your local Jerry’s Artarama store to see if they are participating, or check out their Facebook page (link above). To have a chance to help do something good for someone you never met is a great thing. So, fellow artists, send an e-mail or give them a call, and let’s use our talents for the greater good!
